70+ Olympic Team Information

2003

The Golden Girls now have a 70's Olympic Team that that competed in Hampton Roads in 2003. We have 15 members and our name is the "GOLDEN OLDIES'. Our members qualified  against a mixed age group in West Virginia earlier this year. Even though we lost, we played extremely well. The team roster includes Vernie Beahm, Marge Briggs, Rusty Dowling, Ginny Fant, Edie Goeller, Marian Hardy, Carrie Hendricks, Brooke Holt, Claudia Killian, Phyl Kozan, Brooks Mahoney, Hurricane Hazel Parker, Dolores Vestrich, Andy Williams, and Dee Winter. This rowdy group of softballers is coached by Mary McDonald who is assisted by Lynn Smith.

The 70s team arrived at Hampton Roads armed with bats and determination.  There were only ten players and two coaches, but spirits were high. We found out that there was just one other team in our age bracket: The Michigan Mavericks.  We lost our games to the Michigan team, and came home with the silver medal. It was a real pleasure playing the Michigan team. Well done, 70s, and many thanks to those who cheered us on.
